| Résumé |
Dans cette étude, l’espace public est traité à travers différents angles. Après avoir retracé ses origines et celles d’autres concepts qui en dépendent, tels que l’identité et le lien social, la co-construction et l’imbrication de ces éléments ont pu être mises en lumière. Permettant de mieux appréhender la suite de ce travail, l’analyse de cette revue littéraire a abouti à la question suivante : Comment mesurer l’espace public en tant que support du lien social ? Pour y répondre, cette étude de terrain s’est concentrée sur la place Favre à Chêne-Bourg, espace central pour les Chênois et la vie communale. Mêlant observation, traçage, cartographie, dénombrement, photographie, micros-trottoirs et entretiens, cette recherche a tenté de saisir les nombreuses dynamiques qui forgent cet espace public, porteur de sens et d’histoire.

| Summary |
In this study, public space is examined from different angles. After tracing its origins and those of other concepts that depend on it, such as identity and the social bond, the co-construction and interweaving of these elements were highlighted. The analysis of this literary review has led to the following question, which provides a better understanding of the continuation of this work: How can we measure public space as a support for social ties? To answer this question, this field study focused on the Place Favre in Chêne-Bourg, a central space for the people of Chêne-Bourg and for communal life. Combining observation, tracing, mapping, counting, cartography, micros-trottoirs and interviews, this research attempted to grasp the many dynamics that shape this public space, which is both meaningful and historical.
