| Titre | Jardin potager d’intégration: un espace de transition pour faire face à l’exil |

| Résumé | Ce travail de master porte sur le jardin d’intégration de réfugiés, un espace en ville de Genève où chaque année un groupe de personnes du domaine de l’asile encadrés par une équipe de bénévoles et une animatrice d’ateliers de jardinage, jardine pendant une période de six mois. L’originalité de cet espace repose sur le fait que le jardin, composé par un ensemble de parcelles individuelles, est partagé avec des personnes de la société d’accueil et ceci dans le but de favoriser l’intégration du groupe de réfugiés à la société hôte. Ce mémoire met l’accent sur le social et sa dimension spatiale en concevant l’espace comme inséparable des processus sociaux. L’objectif de cette recherche est de comprendre quel est l’apport du jardin d’intégration dans la transition entre un monde connu et un monde inconnu et lointain vécu par les jardiniers. Pour y parvenir deux outils méthodologiques ont été privilégiés. L’entretien semi directif et l’observation participante. Il en ressort de ce travail que le jardin d’intégration offre à l’exilé en situation de déracinement, un ancrage spatial où celui-ci trouve un support pour mener à bien le remaniement identitaire auquel il fait face avec l’exil. La reconnaissance par autrui, le maintien d’une cohérence biographique et l’offre d’un espace compensatoire lorsque cette continuité n’est pas possible, sont au centre de ce processus. De plus, par l’appropriation d’une parcelle et la possibilité d’appartenance à un groupe, le jardin d’intégration offre la possibilité à l’exilé d’avoir un espace à soi et à mettre un pied dans la société d’accueil. Tous ces facteurs donnent la caractéristique à cet espace de jardinage en ville « d’amortisseur de l’exil ». |
| Summary | This master's work focuses on the Refugee Integration Garden, a space in the city of Geneva, where each year a group of asylum seekers, supervised by a team of volunteers and a gardener worker, garden for a period of six months. The originality of this space is based on the fact that the garden, composed of a set of individual plots, is shared with people from the host society in order to promote the integration of the refugee group into society host. This thesis emphasizes the social and its spatial dimension by conceiving space as inseparable from social processes. The aim of this research is to understand the contribution of the integration garden to the transition from a known world to an unknown and distant world experienced by asylum seekers. To achieve this, two methodological tools were favored. Semi-directional interviewing and participant observation. It emerges from this work that the integration garden offers the exiled person in a situation of uprooting, a spatial anchorage where it finds a support to carry out the identity reshuffle that it faces with exile. At the center of this process, the maintenance of biographical coherence and, when this is not possible, the provision of compensatory space. Moreover, by the appropriation of a plot and the possibility of belonging to a group, the garden of integration offers the possibility for the exile to have a space to itself and to set in the society of Home. All these factors give to this space of gardening the characteristic of shock absorber of the exile. |
