Mémoire N° 612
Auteur TJIN Cynthia
Titre A mismatch in discourses regarding the urban energy transitions ? A comparative analysis between positive energy districts and citizens preferences.
Thématique & formation Energie (Impacts climatiques)
Résumé This research explores citizens' perceptions of their roles within Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) and examines how different narrative framings influence these perceptions. Recognizing the critical role of citizen engagement in successful energy transitions, the study seeks to bridge the gap between policy narratives and public preferences. Through a national survey, participants were presented with narratives framing PEDs around "Techno-economic decarbonization," "Citizen empowerment," "Resiliency through consumer adaptation," and "Resiliency through citizen innovation." The findings indicate that respondents found the active consumer role more relatable than the broader citizen role, with no significant differences in attitudes across the various narratives. The study highlights the importance of clear communication, active support, and institutional trust in fostering citizen engagement in PEDs. It also suggests that future research should explore alternative empowerment models beyond traditional neoliberal frameworks, emphasizing social and political engagement to cultivate activist citizenship in energy transitions.
